We'd like you to meet Theron and Sarah Hutton, our newest teammates. We, the Ankole Mission Team, are very excited about the Hutton’s vital role in the future of this mission!
They have been planning to go to the foreign mission field for many years - even before they were married, both of them felt a strong call to be actively involved in foreign missions.
Sarah’s interest began in high school when she took her first trip to Honduras with her parents to work at a Children’s home. Her missions interest was strengthened during her time as a student at Harding University where she took several missions courses and did an internship in Togo, West Africa. Following her graduation she spent a year in Kenya teaching at a Christian school and working with the church and the missionaries there.
Theron’s interest began at Harding, where he also took several missions courses. While in medical school he made three trips to Uganda and has since felt called to return there to live and use his training to bring the love of Christ to the Ankole people.
After several visits with the team in Uganda and in the US, it became obvious that there was a shared vision for the work and a good "team fit", so the Huttons were asked to join the team in early 2006. The team is excited about the Hutton's arrival in Uganda in the spring of 2008; we are equally thrilled that the First Colony church has committed to providing the majority of the Hutton's financial support.
Theron and Sarah are a significant part of the future of this mission. It is very important for this movement of churches to reach a “critical mass” in terms of maturity and numbers of churches/clusters before the mission team pulls out completely. Some of the original team members are departing in 2007, while other current team members will remain in Uganda with the Huttons for a few years to provide continuity.
It is very clear to us that it was the Lord who made this connection and brought the Huttons into the team. It is clear that they possess the talents and gifting necessary to continue this work and help it to mature. Theron’s training in medicine will also bring many blessings to the mission and contribute greatly in it’s own unique way. (Though he will also be quite involved in other aspects of the work such as leadership training and church maturation.)
In short, we are thrilled that the Huttons have joined the Ankole Mission, and we can’t wait to see what the Lord is going to do through them to bless these churches and the Ankole people.
If you are interested in partnering with the Huttons as they prepare to move to Uganda and begin this exciting new phase of this mission, feel free to contact them:
